Corbett is situated in Himalayan foothills,it covers the area of 520 Sq-kms. Corbett Tiger Reserve has more than 50 mammal species including Approx .220 tigers, 700 Elephants and more than 150 leopards.The national park is home to the most precious and diverse species of flora and fauna accommodating around 110 tree species, 585 bird species, 33 reptile species,7 Species of Amphibians , 7 Species of fishes And 37 Species of colourful dragonflies. It has got rich greenery which makes it a perfect destination for the big cats and other wild animals. Corbett was a very popular hunting reserve during the British period.Corbett national park is named to honor Jim Corbett a hunter turned naturalist photographer and author. Jim Corbett contributed a lot to set up Corbett Wildlife Park.Corbett is the first national park of India . Corbett was the first wildlife sanctuary which became the tiger reserve under Project Tiger in 1973. It became the national park in 1936. The main rivers in Corbett are Kosi And Ramganga which are ideal for Mahaseer angling and to see the crocodiles.
